Fluoride is often referred to as nature's cavity fighter!
Before the fluoride treatment, Dr. Konz will conduct a thorough examination of your child's oral health. This involves checking for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or any other dental issues. This step is crucial as it helps determine whether your child needs a fluoride treatment and, if so, how much fluoride should be applied. During this examination, Dr. Konz will also clean your child's teeth to ensure that the fluoride treatment is as effective as possible.
Once the dental examination is complete, and the teeth are cleaned, the fluoride treatment begins. Dr. Konz will apply a high-concentration fluoride gel, foam, or varnish to your child's teeth. This fluoride is much stronger than the fluoride found in toothpaste or mouthwash. The fluoride is left on the teeth for a few minutes to allow it to fully absorb and strengthen the tooth enamel.
After the fluoride has been applied, your child will be asked not to eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes. This allows the fluoride to penetrate the teeth and provide maximum protection against decay. Your Ashburn dentist will provide additional post-treatment instructions and answer any questions you may have about maintaining your child's oral health at home.
Pediatric fluoride treatment significantly strengthens tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay. This is especially important for children, as their developing teeth are more vulnerable to cavities.
Fluoride treatment is highly effective in preventing tooth decay. By strengthening the tooth enamel, fluoride helps ward off harmful bacteria and acids that can lead to cavities.
Preventing dental issues is always more cost-effective than treating them. Pediatric fluoride treatments are an affordable way to protect your child's oral health and potentially avoid costly dental procedures in the future.
Children who have fluoride treatments are less likely to have cavities!
